2017 Demonstration by Cy Baker

Oil and Ball Point pen with Cy Baker

Our 1st meeting for 2017 saw Cy Baker talking about and demonstrating his Oil and Ball point pen Art.

Cy introduced himself as the guy who was the Arty type at school. He gave an interesting talk about his career in art and showed examples of his work, which were really lovely to see.

Cy paints animals and landscapes using the Ball point pen to add shade and texture. For our demonstration he worked on Linen, his preferred substrate, and built on a sketch he had already painted with a dilute oil colour. Working with Ball point and Marker pens to add texture to the picture, he demonstrated his technique. This works especially well with animals, where the fur comes alive as he builds up the patterns.

This was an entertaining and inspiring talk,  I know at least one person went home and had a go!

If you have a chance to watch Cy demonstrate make sure you go, you won’t regret it!

Two lovely examples of his work are the Black bear and the Large White Pig!
